About “Stacking Book”

Spearheaded and organized by West Bund Museum, “Stacking Book” is a social practice and a snapshot of the state of contemporary cultural awareness. The project encourages the public to donate and exchange literature to build a collective book stack. We hope to form and foster an engaged community of diverse cultural, intellectual, and educational backgrounds through donation, exchange, and content consumption. Books are carriers of historical memory and wisdom; with special care, the reading and sharing of books often spotlight the most pertinent cultural matters in our contemporary era.

“Stacking Book” takes “∞,” the mathematic symbol for infinity, for its visual branding. Infinity traces its lineage to the Latin word “Infinitas,” meaning without borders or boundaries. We hope that, as the books circulate and the community expand, the participants become both the consumers and creators of content. The paths of culture are a complex concoction of two-way lanes, leading to infinite and unpredictable possibilities.

The project will continue to develop and expand. With participation and support from all walks of society, “Stacking Book” aims to draw up a new landscape for the contemporary cultural life.
